Empower Your Journey to Recovery

Transform your life with personalized counseling and coaching services tailored to your unique needs.

Meet Daniel Knox, CADC I, SUDCC, MBA

I’m a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, Interventionist, Trauma Specialist, Behavioral Coach, and Biofeedback Practitioner.

I work with all ages, genders and communities, and I’m committed to helping individuals and their families overcome challenges related to substance use, addiction, and trauma, with an approach that’s compassionate, evidence-based, and tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.

I use a range of therapy types, and prefer to work with you to decide the best approach, rather than making assumptions based on my intuition. There is no “one size fits all” strategy for positive development, and experimenting with blended styles often yields the best results.

Sessions are conducted in-person from my office in Pacific Palisades, as well as by phone and telehealth.  A proud member of the Malibu Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce, I serve the communities of Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Bel Air, and Beverly Hills.

My Background & Specialties

Substance Use Counseling & Behavioral Coaching

Comprehensive support for individuals struggling with substance use, including personalized treatment plans and ongoing support.

Trauma-Based, Root Cause Addiction Therapy

Specialized counseling sessions designed to address the root causes of addiction and promote long-term recovery.  Process and heal from past traumatic experiences in a safe and supportive environment.

Co-Existing Issues and Disorders

Substance use rarely appears on its own, and it’s necessary to address the contributing stressors and issues in one’s life.  My expertise extends to issues including anxiety, autism, ADHD, body positivity, chronic relapse, depression, divorce, family conflict, gambling, hoarding, infidelity, mood disorders, parenting, relationship issues, school issues, sexual abuse, sexual addiction, sleep or insomnia, PTSD, and weight loss.

Interventions

When a higher level of care is needed, I work with family and friends to help move those in need through the stages of change, bringing about recognition of the problem and understanding about what can be done, preventing enabling behaviors, and creating scenarios with a higher likelihood of successful treatment and reduced relapse.

You’re here because you’ve made it this far

Addictive tendencies, substance abuse, and overindulgence, are often rooted in trauma. That’s one of those scary, stigmatized words that’s easy to dismiss. “My experiences weren’t traumatic, it’s not like I had it as bad as some people”. It’s also easy to dismiss the effects. “I’m not traumatized, I’m just like this.” In its wake are depression, anxiety, and the need for “something more.”

You’re not alone. There are a lot of us out here, and we’ve grasped on to things that felt like they could help. Our personal collections of coping mechanisms can be messy, and sometimes they just don’t work anymore.

All we do is talk. And it helps. My role is in teaching skills to feel better right now, while simultaneously tackling past traumas that are affecting your current symptoms, usually without the use of medication. I also help manage withdrawal effects from drugs, alcohol, and prescription medication, including antidepressants, with the use of biofeedback.

Recognition of ongoing issues and an openness to change, are how we begin the process.

So, congratulations.

You’re here because you’ve made it this far, or because you care enough about a loved one to be here on their behalf. It’s going to get better.
